Your Hallway becomes a show — a screensaver that runs all by itself:
Each preview is your own picture in that style.
Saved on this device.
On: Solo keeps going like a screensaver — about thirty seconds after a painting is finished, the painter starts a new version of the same picture in a surprise style, again and again. Tap the screen while a finished one is showing to keep it. Off: Solo paints it once and stops.
For the Record video box: Kai films the whole show, from setting up to packing away. Recording works with Normal, Quick and Relaxed (Solo runs for minutes, so it isn’t recorded). High is the default on computers, Standard on phones.
Adds a light woven-canvas look to the pictures you save (PNG, JPG and WebP), like a real painted canvas. Turn it off for a clean, flat picture. You can also switch it for one save in the save options (⋯).
More detail paints every style with smaller, more numerous strokes, so faces and fine shapes come through. Classic style keeps the original, chunkier look. Applies to the next painting.
On: each new picture starts in the style you painted with last. Off: it starts with Van Gogh every time. (You can always pick another before painting.)
Random picks a different room for each new picture, and leans a little toward rooms that suit the style (Vermeer loves the Jewel Box, Monet the Oval Rooms).
Critics, tourists, a dog walker, a guard… who turns up depends on the room.
Some visitors are secret — keep your eyes open. ·
How long each painting takes.
Now and then a painter can’t resist painting it in their own favorite instead of its style: Theo loves Van Gogh, Marigold Monet, Dex Mondrian, Rosa Pop Art, Wren Seurat — and Kai, Happy Little Landscapes. Off: always the painting’s own style.
Start it from the Hallway. Visitors vote for a painting, an audience sits down, one of the crew paints it again, and it starts over. The audience always comes, even with visitors switched off. Not recorded.
Tap 📷 (or press P) anywhere — the rooms, the Hallway, the Crew Café, Gallery mode — and Kai takes a picture: no buttons in the shot. Tap 🎥 (or press V) to start a clip straight away; tap it again to stop early.
Hidden buttons still work from the keyboard: P for a snapshot, V for a clip.
Everyone poses: Kai calls “Say cheese!” and everyone in view turns and smiles first. Candid: taken just as things are. Ask each time: each time you tap 📷, you pick posed or candid. The caption is a small “Little Painters · trenttroyer.com/littlepainters” credit in the corner; it also shows in the last 10 seconds of Kai’s full video, while the camera holds on your finished painting. Plain, Polaroid, Postcard: the border around your snapshot. Screen size is right for sharing; Large is twice as big, for printing. The seconds are how long a 🎥 clip runs (tap 🎥 again to stop early).
The crew drives a lift up to each button and tells you what it does. Ms. Okafor’s Hallway tour and the Gallery mode welcome can be watched again from Help → Tours, once you’ve seen them.
One .zip file. Restoring adds to what’s here — it never deletes anything.
Reset settings puts every choice on this page back to how it started. Your Hallway, scrapbook, Margot’s fridge, room passport and secret-visitor hunt are all kept.
Bring a picture and a tiny crew builds a scaffold, rolls on the base coat and paints it for you in the style you pick — right there on the wall of a real room.
Everything happens on your device. Your pictures are never uploaded.
— the small things hidden all around the gallery.
The little painters hide little things everywhere. Here are the ones we can tell you about.
Notes left by visitors. More appear as the Hallway fills up.
Nothing here yet — tap 📷 anywhere to take a snapshot. Your last 20 snapshots and clips are kept here (on this device, and in your backups).

Ideas involving more dancing are 40% more likely to happen.
You can back up any time in Settings → Your gallery.
Bring a picture, pick a style, and a little crew of painters repaints it for you on a real-looking canvas.

Tap 📷 (or press P) anywhere — the rooms, the Hallway, Gallery mode — and Kai takes a picture of what you’re looking at, with no buttons in the shot. Tap 🎥 (or press V) to start a short clip straight away; tap it again to stop early. While the crew paints and the top bar hides, the two buttons float in the top corner. Snapshots and clips are made from the scene itself, so the buttons never show up in them (or in Kai’s video). Your last 20 are kept in the scrapbook 📒 — open it from the Hallway or from Settings. Settings has the rest: the poses, the caption (plain, Polaroid or postcard), the size, the clip length, and switches to hide either button (P and V still work).
Tick Record video and Kai walks in, sets up his camera in the corner and films the whole show — setup, painting and pack-up — from your view of the room. The little screen on the back of his camera shows the canvas as it’s painted. The video ends with ten seconds on your finished painting (a small painting in a big room gets a close-up), then saves (MP4 where your browser supports it, otherwise WebM). Recording works with Normal, Quick and Relaxed, not Solo. Video quality is in Settings.
Once the crew has packed up, people wander in to look at your painting: a critic with his notes, a tourist with a big camera, a kid with a balloon, someone who needs a selfie with it… Who turns up depends on the room — the museum has a guard and a guided tour, the gallery has an opening-night crowd (and a collector with a red “sold” dot), the outdoor wall gets a dog walker, a jogger and the pigeons. They stroll down the Hallway too. Some visitors are secret — keep your eyes open. Meet them all with the Visitors button at the top, and turn them off in Settings.
The Famous Halls bring new regulars, each with a home room where you’ll see them most — and they wander everywhere else too: Lulu on tiptoe at the back, Hiroshi sitting quietly on the floor, Margot painting tiny watercolor copies (they end up on her fridge), Annelies with her loupe (Professor Pemberton’s oldest friend), Amir the architect looking up at the ceiling, Jules with his skateboard, Tamsin lying on the floor to take it all in, and Lady Fontaine, who curtsies to your painting. Gaston guards the glass case in the Grand Salon.
And a dozen more drop by: Noor & Bex, best friends who talk in sign language; Ivy, who explains every painting to Grandpa Felix (he dozes off on the bench); Coco the fashion designer, matching her swatches to your painting’s colors; Wendell the poet, who reads you a line about it; Mr. Mendoza the frame maker, who only looks at the frame; Inspector Quill from the insurance company, who gets nervous; Mateo & baby Lu (Lu has opinions — and drops socks); the twins Ada & Ida; and Ruth, 82, who does the whole museum in record time.
Open Meet the visitors and tap the heart on anyone’s card — a regular, or a secret visitor once you’ve found them. Your favorites come by more often, whenever and wherever they can (the snowman still only comes when it snows). Find every secret visitor and they all come out more, and your favorites more still.
Professor Pemberton and Madame Duval are art critics, and they don’t agree on much: he loves the old masters, she loves anything bold and modern. When one of them comes to look at your painting (Pemberton writing his notes, or the two of them with their scorecards), their review comes out in the Gazette a day or two later — so come back and see. Reviews go with the paintings you hang in the Hallway: open a painting there and scroll down past the buttons to read the Gazette (the visitors give everything five stars). A NEW tag on a Hallway plaque means a review has come out. Once in a blue moon, the critics agree. Each critic has favorite rooms — Pemberton likes the grand old halls, Duval the bold modern ones — and the Gazette says where they saw your painting.
Every room you paint in gets a stamp in your passport (see it in Settings, under Room). Paint in every one of them and Ms. Okafor has something to say. If new rooms are added, there are just more stamps to earn.
Hang in the Hallway keeps a painting in your own gallery on this device. Open it any time with the Hallway button and tap a painting to see it with its details:
Margot’s fridge stands at the far end of the Hallway, past your oldest painting, next to the water cooler. Whenever Margot sketches one of your paintings — in a room or in the Hallway — she makes a tiny watercolor copy and sticks it on her fridge with a magnet. Tap a copy to walk back to its painting. Her copies are hers: taking a painting down leaves her magnet up. The fridge holds the newest ones on top (older ones slide underneath), and they go into your backups too. Tap a copy whose painting isn’t in the Hallway anymore to see it up close. And yes, that’s Ollie’s drawing up on the freezer — tap it too.
The Hallway lives in this browser on this device. Back it up now and then: Settings → Your gallery → Back up everything saves your paintings, scrapbook and settings in one .zip file, and Restore from a backup adds them back (it never deletes anything).
A screensaver made from your Hallway. Press Gallery mode in the Hallway: visitors gather in front of their favorites and vote, then we go to the winner’s room. Dex and Rosa set out chairs, the audience sits down, Ms. Okafor welcomes the painter, and one of the crew paints it again — a fresh take. Everyone takes a turn (Kai turns up now and then as a special guest); if their own gear can’t reach, they borrow someone else’s and get a little wobbly. Now and then a painter can’t resist painting it in their own favorite style. Then a bow, a few words from Ms. Okafor, everyone heads out, and it’s back to the Hallway for the next vote. It keeps the screen awake. Tap or move the mouse to show the controls: 🎵 Music, Full screen (tap again to leave it) and Exit gallery mode — or press Esc on a keyboard. Painting time (2, 4 or 6 minutes) and the favorite-style twist are in Settings. Gallery mode isn’t recorded. Margot’s fridge stays in view at the end of the Hallway — and now and then, something surprising wins the vote.
The gear button holds: the pace (and Solo’s Keep painting new versions: a new version in a surprise style, over and over), video quality, canvas texture on saved pictures, More detail or Classic style (smaller, more numerous strokes so faces and fine shapes come through, or the original chunkier brushwork), whether to start with the style you used last, the room (or Random) and your room passport, visitors (and starting the secret-visitor hunt over), Gallery mode time and twist, snapshots & clips, going full screen when the crew starts, Show me around (the welcome tour again), back up and restore, and Reset settings. Everything is saved on this device.
Each part of Little Painters has a little tour the first time you get there: Dex or Rosa show you the room, Ms. Okafor shows you the Hallway once you’ve hung a painting, and Gallery mode explains itself the first time you start it. Once you’ve seen one, you can watch it again here.
Everything happens on your device. Your pictures are never uploaded.
Nothing hanging yet — after a painting is finished, tap Hang in the Hallway.
